EcoMobility - Advocacy and Public Relations Officer

The Global Alliance for EcoMobility is a cross-sectoral partnership for the integrated promotion of walking, cycling, wheeling and ‘passenging’ (use of public transport). Our members are global leaders from the business, user, expert and governmental sectors. Please see www.ecomobility.org for the Alliance’s vision and mandate.

The Secretary General seeks an Advocacy and PR Officer for the Alliance Secretariat.

Tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Positioning EcoMobility in the international discussion on sustainable urban transport, especially in the climate change debate
  • Developing and leading annual promotional campaign for EcoMobility in cooperation with members from the business, user, expert and governmental sectors
  • Producing arguments for EcoMobility, preparing fact sheets
  • Producing newsletter
  • Writing reports, speeches, media releases
  • Media relations
  • Addressing international policy fora, meetings and events
  • Support the recruitment of new members
  • Website editing (general promotion, profiling and positioning of EcoMobility)
  • Technical assistance to Working Group on Membership Development, Branding and Promotion

Term and conditions:

Full-time position, available from November 2008. Office location is Bonn, Germany. International travel is required. Communication with partners around the world may require working during unusual office hours.
The advocacy and PR Officer reports to the Secretary General. A competitive salary will be offered.

Requirements

  • University degree or equivalent qualification preferably in Communications, Journalism, Media Relations or Public Relations
  • Several years of working experience in corporate communication and public relations
  • Experience or proven interest in urban mobility, sustainable urban transport and environmental policy

The successful candidate:

  • shows enthusiasm for the cause of ecomobility, especially non-motorized transport (walking-cycling-wheeling) and public transport (‘passenging’)
  • is a self-starter with an organized working style and organizing skills
    is persistent in implementing the Alliance’s vision and mandate
  • shows creativity and excellence in communicating the Alliance’s message to public policy makers, planners, investors and the broader public
  • manages to convert dry technical facts into compelling stories
    is proficient in oral and written English and fluency in at least one other language (German would be of advantage)
  • brings strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
    motivates and leads junior staff
  • is proficient in office and publishing software and web content management systems (ideally TYPO3)
