ICLEI Conferences are seen as milestones to showcase local governments activities or start new initiatives through networking and best practice exchanges.

ICLEI's Global Capacity Centre (formerly the International Training Centre) based in Bonn (Germany) is the international capacity, training and conference service unit of ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability.

Between September 1992 and 2007, the ITC, now the Global Capacity Centre, was involved in 110 conferences, seminars, workshops and capacity building projects with more than 16.000 participants. Various series of events, such as ICLEI World Congresses, EcoProcura Conferences and Expert Seminars were also established.
