Managing a Sustainable Future: 12-13 February 2008

ICLEI invites its Members to the forum “Managing a Sustainable Future for Cities and Regions". This Forum on integrated management for urban areas, will take place in the Max-Taut- Berlin (Germany) on 12-13 February 2008.   ICLEI is a partner to this event. The Forum will provide an opportunity to exchange information and experiences between the participants on how to deliver local sustainability through an integrated management system. The conference will feature MUE-25 city presentations, workshops and keynote presentations. Under the patronage of Mr. Sigmar Gabriel, the German Minister for Environment, the Berlin Forum is being organized by ICLEI and the consortia of the project Managing Urban Europe- 25, together with the District Lichtenberg of Berlin. The project Managing Urban Europe-25 has for the past three years been developing a model for integrated management providing local and regional sustainability. The model is applicable to all cities and regions in EU27+. During the project, 25 European cities and regions have participated in the development of the model and the pilot implementation of the model. The MUE-25 model of an integrated management system has been taken up by the European Commission as key elements of integrated environmental management in the recently published guidance in relation to the Thematic Strategy on the Urban Environment. The model is the key for cities and regions to fulfill the EU policies such as Lisbon Agenda, EU Sustainable Development Strategy, Leipzig Charter on European Sustainable Cities, the  Aalborg
Commitments, etc.  For more information, please visit the conference webpages at www.iclei-europe.org/index.php?id=berlinforum.
