ICLEI members Heidelberg, Hannover and Freiburg in Germany awarded for nature conservation and biodiversity

114 German cities took part in the 2007 national competition "Capital of Nature Conservation".

The ngo "German Environment Help", the German Federal Ministry for the Environment and Nature Conservation and the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation are awarding outstanding activities for local governments of different size.

First prizes went to long-time ICLEI Members Heidelberg and Hannover, with the city of Freiburg placing third in the category of over 100,000 inhabitants.
All three cities are well known for their energy and climate protection policies. Having received this award for nature conservation and biodiversity demonstrates once more that a sustainable city is one with ambitious targets that is leading activities in many different sectors.
