ICLEI Pilots Adaptation Guidebook

ICLEI Canada has launched a new climate adaptation pilot project in partnership with Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Program.  The project involves piloting the adaptation planning process laid out in Preparing for Climate Change: A Guidebook for Local, Regional and State Governments.  This publication was produced in association with ICLEI’s US office, from the combined experiences of the Climate Impacts Group (CIG), the University of Washington, and King County, Washington.

This project will help to further municipal climate adaptation planning in Canada by identifying what gaps there are in the tools and resources that support the planning process.  ICLEI will take the lessons learnt from this project to develop a supplementary information package to this US-focused guidebook addressing specific Canadian needs. And, NRCan will take the lessons learned from this project to inform the future direction and outputs of its Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Program.

ICLEI Canada is in the process of selecting three pilot cities, and an unlimited number of observer cities.  They will work with a spectrum of communities that will deal with a variety of different adaptation issues such as those relating to agriculture, tourism or culture or coastal issues.
