New CCP Campaign launched in Japan

In order to reinforce local climate actions, ICLEI’s Japan Office launched the new Cities for Climate Protection®-Japan Campaign. Launched at the Kyoto Conference on Climate Change in February 2007 in Kyoto City (Japan), the new Campaign is characterized by a strong emphasis on monitoring and reporting (milestones 4 and 5). CCP Japan regularly collects the achievement of the participants, updates the database of best practice (only in Japanese up to now) and organizes seminars/workshops to share experiences. “The database showcases local climate actions but also helps to create a standard reporting system and prepare a future emission trading between local governments”, says the ICLEI Japan Office. Up to the end of July, 13 local governments have signed the commitment of CCP Japan. JO will call for more participants through the 3rd survey of best practice in this autumn.
