Wanted: Good examples of socially responsible procurement

The project RESPIRO is looking for good practice examples of local governments and private companies that include social criteria when purchasing textiles and clothing.  Examples of socially responsible procurement criteria in procurement of textiles are:
  • labour market inclusion (social economy; sheltered companies; 'social clause');
  • workers rights (ILO conventions - child labour);
  • combating the use of "black" ad child labour; and
  • promoting equal opportunities in the workplace;
  These best practice examples should contain tenders, code of conducts, municipal resolutions and policies, etc. The RESPIRO project aims to increase the inclusion of social and ethical requirements in public and private sector purchasing activities through encouraging an exchange of experiences between public and private sector procurers, and encouraging an exchange between public procurers and potential suppliers.  For more information on RESPIRO, please visit www.respiro-project.eu.  Please note that the next RESPIRO conference will be held in Lille in December 2007 – more information is available in the event section of ICLEI’s homepage. For more information, or to learn more about this request, please contact Ms Francesca Crippa, Senior Project Officer at francesca.crippa@eurocities.eu.
