Spending public money responsibly

A New Guide to Cost-effective Sustainable Procurement is now available in six different languages. ICLEI’s Sustainable Procurement team is happy to announce that the Procura+ Manual - A Guide to Cost-effective Sustainable Public Procurement – is now available in English, German, French, Italian, Greek and Catalan. The manual provides clear and simple advice on how public authorities, such as local governments, universities, schools, and hospitals, can implement sustainable procurement – regardless of size or level of experience with the topic. The second edition of the manual has been prepared by individuals with public sector procurement experience. It provides practical advice on integrating sustainability into procurement, information on the cost of sustainable procurement, a model for systematically implementing sustainable procurement and actual purchasing criteria for six high-priority product groups - construction, IT equipment, cleaning products, food, buses and electricity, as well as a simple approach to monitoring performance. The manual is a key tool for ICLEI's Sustainable Procurement Campaign, Procura+ - an initiative designed to help support public authorities across Europe in implementing sustainable procurement - and help promote their achievements. More information on the Procura+ Campaign is available at www.procuraplus.org, where the other language versions of the Manual are also available for download. If you would like to discuss participation in the Campaign, please contact Mark Hidson at mark.hidson@iclei-europe.org.
