LoGo Water Symposium in Ekurhuleni

A symposium of the LoGo Water Project took place from 9-10 July 2007 in Ekurhuleni (South Africa). The theme of the Symposium was ‘Water for Local Needs – The Contribution of Local Governments to Integrated Water Resources Management (IWAM)’. Participation was by invitation only. The Symposium was a forum for local governments and relevant stakeholders in the South African Development Community (SADC) Region to identify the benefits of IWRM application for local governments as well as the ways and means to advance their involvement.  The conclusions drawn from the debates will form the basis for the development of a regional IWRM initiative aiming at encouraging local governments to adopt the principles of IWRM in their policies and actions. All participants received a draft copy of the ‘IWRM Package for Local Governments’.  This Package – as well as the Symposium itself – is being produced in the framework of the project LoGo Water.
