Congratulations to the US Members selected as Solar America Cities

Congratulations go out to several ICLEI Members in the U.S.A. that were selected as Solar America Cities. Austin (Texas), Berkeley (California), Boston (Massachusetts), Madison (Wisconsin), New Orleans (Louisiana), Los Angeles (California), New York (New York), Portland (Oregon), Salt Lake City (Utah), San Diego (California), and San Francisco (California) were all recognized by the US Department of Energy as Solar America Cities. These cities were recognized for their high level of commitment to promote solar energy throughout their cities.  The cities selected are prepared to take a comprehensive, city-wide approach to solar technology that facilitates mainstream adoption through a variety of approaches. Solar America Cities promotes the use of photovoltaics, concentrating solar power (SAP), and solar water/air heating technologies.  The Department of Environment (DoE) recognizes Solar America Cities to accelerate solar adoption in the country’s electricity load centers by supporting cities’ innovative efforts with financial and technical assistance. The Solar America Cities will receive a combined $US 2.5 million in federal financial assistance.  DoE will also provide additional value in the form of on-site technical and policy expert assistance to help cities with their most pressing needs.
