Nottingham pledges to cut its carbon emissions by 60 percent

November 14, 2007

Nottingham (UK) is one of eight cities in the UK that have pledged to meet or exceed the goal of cutting carbon emissions by 60 percent by 2050.

They also have pledged to ‘show leadership’ by getting the public and private sector actively involved, and to build the impacts of climate change into all decision-making processes including procurement, transport, housing, waste, water and land use.

The pledge is in support of the Climate Change Bill to be set by the national government.

More and more cities are facing the need to mitigate climate change while already adapting to the changes brought about by climate change.  ICLEI’s Cities for Climate Protection® (CCP) Campaign is an innovative international campaign that helps local government and their communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and their impact on the environment.   And now, the CCP Campaign is launching the Adaptation Initiative, building capacity for climate change impacts at the local level.  For more information, please visit www.iclei.org/ccp.

Nottingham is one of 11 local governments in the U.K. that are currently Members of ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability.  For more information on ICLEI and its activities in Europe, please visit www.iclei.org/europe.
