Columbia hosts ‘Green is Good for Business’
September 19, 2007
Columbia (U.S.A.) will host ‘Green is Good for Business’ on 24 September 2007.
The event is being hosted by the Climate Protection Action Committee (CPAC), a volunteer group established by the city of Columbia. CPAC identifies measures that can be taken to reduce greenhouse gases, its initial focus being internal city government operations and procedures.
As a future focus, the Committee will identify community outreach and evaluation programs to encourage others to take action to live ‘greener’.
The purpose of ‘Green is Good for Business’ is to inform citizens and businesses of action being taken by the city to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and encourage good stewardship of the environment.
Participants to the conference will find out how to:
- save money by conserving resources;
- create and enhance competitive advantage and reputation;
- open up new or niche markets;
- present positive opportunities for marketing, improve public relations, and demonstrate a commitment to corporate responsibility; and
- join the Green Business Initiative.
More and more cities are facing the need to mitigate climate change while already adapting to the changes brought about by climate change. ICLEI’s Cities for Climate Protection® (CCP) Campaign is an innovative international campaign that helps local government and their communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and their impact on the environment. And now, the CCP Campaign is launching the Adaptation Initiative, building capacity for climate change impacts at the local level. For more information, please visit www.iclei.org/ccp.
Columbia is one of 205 local governments in the U.S.A. that are currently Members of ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability. For more information on ICLEI and its activities in the U.S.A., please visit www.iclei.org/usa.
