San Fernando La Union learning from Canadian urban planners (copy 1)

June 20, 2007

These initiatives have included land use planning and management, emergency preparedness, information technology, and ordinance and bylaw enforcement.  The latest partnership missions were on local economic development.  In June 2006, former Lady Mayor Mary Jane Ortega visited the Township of Langley for observation and a study tour.  In January of 2007, a delegation from Langley came to San Fernando La Union for a city tour that included a vinegar making factory, a food processing centre for women, and bamboo basket, furniture and broom-making industries.

This partnership is a program of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), financially supported by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

San Fernando La Union is one of 24 local governments in Southeast Asia that are currently Members of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. For more information on ICLEI and its activities in Southeast Asia, please visit www.iclei.org/seasia.
