Hingham partnering with ICLEI on climate strategies
March 26, 2008
Hingham (Massachusetts, U.S.A.) is working with the ICLEI USA Office to produce a baseline greenhouse gas emissions report.
This report will be used as the current benchmark to develop strategies that the Town of Hingham and its residents can use to reduce the effects of climate change on the community.
The agreement is between ICLEI and the Hingham Municipal Lighting Plant, in conjunction with the Hingham Energy Policy Committee. The study is projected to take about two to three months to complete the work and prepare the results.
More and more cities are facing the need to mitigate climate change while already adapting to the changes brought about by climate change. ICLEI’s Cities for Climate Protection® (CCP) Campaign is an innovative international campaign that helps local government and their communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and their impact on the environment. And now, the CCP Campaign is launching the Adaptation Initiative, building capacity for climate change impacts at the local level. For more information, please visit www.iclei.org/ccp.
Hingham is one of 311 local governments in the U.S.A. that are currently Members of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. For more information on ICLEI and its activities in the U.S.A., please visit www.iclei.org/usa.
