March 26, 2008
Water Futures, the draft water management strategy for 2008-2013 for Onkaraparinga (Australia), is available for public comment.
Water Futures provides the strategic framework for Onkaraparinga’s management of all water resources – main’s water, surface water (including stormwater), groundwater and wastewater. It also includes the delivery of the Water Proofing the South initiative.
The objectives of Water Futures are:
- To conserve water;
- To protect water quality (surface and groundwater);
- To reduce reliance on water sourced from the River Murray;
- To protect water dependent ecosystems (including coast and marine); and
- To promote economic development opportunities.
Copies of the draft and feedback forms have been made available at local libraries, community centres and offices, as well as other locations. Additionally, a community consultation forum has been set for 16 April 2008.
The Onkaraparinga Council will consider the final draft, revised following feedback, in June 2008.
