Climate Roadmap South Asia
The action is part of a two-year process to empower local governments at climate negotiations involving United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), Metropolis, ICLEI, the C40 Climate Leadership Group, and the World Mayors Council on Climate Change

Roadmap of South Asian Cities for the post 2012 global climate agreement

January 05, 2009

The Roadmap of South Asian Cities and Local Governments for the post 2012 global climate agreement and actions project supports South Asian local governments to grasp the contribution of urban carbon emissions. It also develops a regional consensus on local action plans and build a network of leaders to influence the post-Kyoto climate negotiations.

The outcomes of the project would be a City Energy Status Reports and a Carbon Emission Inventory for 50 large South Asian cities. As well, it would results in a South Asian consensus on international environmental treaties for the formation of a realistic, robust and durable framework of commitments in the post-2012 period. The project would also develop standardized city action plans to address climate change issues locally.

This network will form the basis of the Local Government Delegation comprising Mayors from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan to joing the World Mayors Council on Climate Change (WMCCC), to lead the interaction with the international negotiation process (at COP-14 and COP-15) and the parallel national dialogues.

The project is generously funded through the British Government 'Global Opportunity Fund'.
