Two Korean cities joined ICLEI

February 08, 2013

Two Korean cities - City of Osan and City of YoungJu - have recently joined ICLEI after ICLEI Korea Office relocated from Jeju to Suwon in October 2012.

Kwak, Sang Wook, Mayor of the City of Osan expressed his hope for seeing more tangible outcomes of local climate actions on low carbon emission by working with cities and local government around the world. “Such efforts to make cities more sustainable should be recognized in the international community through ICLEI Korea,” he said.

Kim, Joo-young, Mayor of the City of YoungJu, expressed particular interest in cross-cities environmental projects such as the GreenClimateCities® Programme which ICLEI Korea plans to launch this year.

Daegu Metropolitan City - another ICLEI member from Korea since 2008, will be hosting the 22nd World Energy Congress during 13-17 October 2013. Kim, Boo-seop, Director General of the Environmental Greenery Bureau, also expressed his readiness to work with ICLEI and promote the 2013 World Water Day, the 2015 World Water Forum, and Dal-Sung Wetland Preservation in Daegu during a bilateral meeting with Park, Yeonhee, Director of ICLEI Korea Office.
