Eco-Forum Global in Guiyang, China: ICLEI partners on International Green City Platform

November 12, 2012

One of the outcomes of this year’s Eco-Forum Global (EFG 2012) presented by ICLEI Secretary General Konrad Otto-Zimmermann at the closing plenary session, is the formation of an International Green City Platform.

The purpose of the Platform is to organize the exchange between “green cities” (new towns, eco-cities, eco-districts, eco-industrial parks and other development areas) through sessions at the Eco-Forum Global and virtual meetings; capacity building through field visits and training sessions; consultations with policy makers; and research on eco-city indicators and criteria.

For the second year, ICLEI has been involved in the Eco-Forum Global held in Guiyang, China. For EFG 2012, ICLEIs Capacity Center Director Monika Zimmermann co-organized a half-day session on “Building Eco-cities: Chinese Cities and International Cities”, and Mr. Otto-Zimmermann participated in a TV Summit on “Post rio+20 – Trend of China’s Green Economic Development”.

Eco-Forum Global is an annual congress launched in 2009, offering an interactive platform for the leaders of government, businesses and industries, academia, media, NGOs and other organizations to engage in the strategic discussions on green economy and eco-civilization.

EFG 2012 was hosted by the CPPCC Committee on Population, Resources, and Environment; the Chinese Ministries of Science and Technology, Environmental Protection and Housing and Urban-Rural Development; Peking University and Guizhou Provincial Government with support from the National Development and Reform Commission, UNESCO, UNEP and UNIDO. It was organized by the Eco-Forum Global Secretariat, Guiyang Municipal Government and Municipal Committee of CPC, and Eco-Foundation Global.

For EFG 2012, ICLEI served as the Global Strategic Partner for the Green City Network.
